Presentations on the power of positive self-care and developing resilience
Helping students and school staff to understand the importance of positive self-care and developing resilience and perseverance from within. Liz helps her audience to find calm in the chaos.
Year 7 – 12 students, teaching staff
Liz is a born storyteller.
A self-confessed ‘drama nerd’ growing up and then later a Drama/English teaching graduate, Liz has a natural ability to engage an audience.
But what stories to tell?
Well, after decades of collecting funny ones, sad ones, scary ones and downright unforgettable ones, Liz shares the ones that really matters.
Six year’s ago, during a journey through grief, loss, exhaustion and chaos, Liz turned to meditation as a way of finding some peace and clarity – and her life changed in the most unexpected of ways.
Since then, she has developed a deep grasp on how placing our attention inside is the only true way of accepting – and even welcoming – everything on the outside (and she means everything!).
Today, Liz offers her unique and lighthearted perspective to spark curiosity, openness and inspiration in young people so they might discover the hidden sanctuary in themselves; a well of worthiness, calm and comfort that is all theirs and always there, on-tap.
By understanding and developing positive self-care habits, students develop their perseverance and resilience skills.
(Oh, and because she really wishes someone had told her this stuff when she was young!)
Positive self-care and resilience presentation topics:
FINDING CALM IN THE CHAOS
When she felt the unmistakable presence of her beloved teenage niece, who offered Liz a very clear one-word instruction from the ‘other side’, she knew she had to do it. ‘Meditate,’ Ruby said. And so Liz did. A lot.
Here, she shares her wild and wondrous experiences of trying to get still in the middle of a maelstrom, and guides students through the very meditation that ‘changed everything’.
Funny, sad and memorable, this is an introduction to the benefits of meditation – and an inspiration to keep at it – unlike any other.
YOU DO YOU!
They say ‘comparison is the thief of joy’ and, in a world that capitalises on our comparisons – both to and of each other – it’s never been easier to spend an entire lifetime robbing yourself of the good stuff.
By sharing relatable stories and simple centring techniques, Liz empowers students to tune into their own life-lane, shares ways to stay in it (without veering off into someone else’s) and, ultimately, inspires them to honour it with their full focus.
It’s one thing to tell young people to ‘be true to yourself’ but it’s quite another to teach them how to discover, connect with and listen to their inner voice, whilst also appreciating the uniqueness and value of others’ (hint: no judgement!).
We’re learning to switch loyalties: from what other people think, to what our heart-of-hearts already knows.
YOU WERE BORN TO DO THIS
A unique lesson in resilience.
How do we turn ‘it’s not happening to you, it’s happening for you’ into a trust we can feel?
Who would we be if we had no challenges at all?
Where do we go to find the energy to get through them all?
Liz explores all these questions and more with students in a thought-provoking and practical approach to staying strong.
