About Danikka

Danikka Calyon is a 22-year-old proud Noongar woman whose family is from the South west region of Western Australia. She is a talented female Aboriginal school speaker, focussed on delivering positive outcomes for young people.

Residing in the Armadale area she is seen as an active role model with a well-known and respected reputation for promoting inspiration to young people and advocate for Aboriginal young people.

“One of the biggest challenges young people face is the stigma of being a bad or naughty kid and in my work I am able to celebrate their strengths and help them find positive pathways that help them to redefine who they are.”

She has been involved with Save the Children since 2014 initially as a participant and later as an employee across four different programs – Ignite Basketball, One Step Closer, Armadale Youth Intervention Partnership and the Youth Justice mentoring program.

In 2015, she was selected as an inaugural Youth Ambassador for Save the Children Australia, working to prepare the “Our Voice” report, and brought the priorities and voices of young people to Canberra. At 17, Danikka attended the United Nations General Assembly to call on world leaders to address key issues facing young people, including equality and Indigenous peoples.

Danikka is described as an inspirational young leader and a passionate advocate for Aboriginal young people. These programs and opportunities have taught her many life skills and helped her to develop into the young leader she is today, a passionate advocate for young people.
